Sirdar
Sirdar a popular brand with rich heritage, is a huge household name in knitting and crochet here in the UK. Established in 1880 by the Harrap brothers, Sirdar originally focussed entirely on using only natural wool fibres.
Since then, as technology has evolved and fashions come and gone, Sirdar have expanded into creating a stunning range of knitting and crochet yarns in all manner of fibre combinations from acrylics to polyamides and other synthetics…but of course, natural fibre is still what they do best and why here at Laughing Hens we like them so much!
We just love the range of shades in Sirdar Cotton DK, it’s perfect for all manner of trans-seasonal projects (and vegan friendly too). The funky self-striping colourways of Sirdar Heart & Sole sock yarn also get our up-vote - not just for socks, why not try shawls and fingerless mitts too?!
With over 100 years of clothing styles at their backs, design has played a huge part in Sirdar’s development and ever-increasing popularity. Sirdar have built up a truly impressive archive of knitting and crochet pattern support for their yarns. From the necessity of the 1940’s wartime knitter, through the fair isles and space dyes of the 1970’s, the batwings and mohairs of the 1980’s, up to the present day – Sirdar has created something from every fashion movement and their design archive is incredibly diverse.
