Fingering Weight Yarn
Fingering weight yarn is very popular among both knitters and crocheters as an all-round versatile weight with many uses. Available in a huge range of fiber blends, Fingering weight yarns are used to create just about anything you can imagine! Thanks to the ever-growing demand for Fingering yarns there are many exciting modern ranges of self-patterning, hand-dyed effect and speckled colorways, as well as classic solid, semi-solid or tonal shades.
For many of you socks & shawls will be the first items to spring to mind when thinking of Fingering weight yarns (check out our patterns by clicking the links)! Also a firm favourite for creating Fair Isle and Intarsia, Fingering weight is a finer and often softer alternative to Sport & DK yarns that works up into small, neat stiches providing the level of intricacy needed to achieve impressive color patterns. Fingering yarns are a great hit with those wishing to emulate a Vintage style as many original patterns from the 1940’s & 50’s use this weight of yarn.
Standard Fingering weight knitting wools and yarns are usually knitted on a US 3 needle but always check the pattern or yarn instructions as this will vary dependent on stitch pattern used, style of garment and also the density of fabric required.
